Currently you open the door to get out, it swings open, and if you didn&#8217;t see that car that changed lanes, your door may get wacked off, but you&#8217;ll be alive afterwards.  If this becomes main stream you&#8217;re going to find a lot of people getting ran over. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to think that people are smart enough to look, but *you can&#8217;t* if the mirror isn&#8217;t there.  So you&#8217;re actually at a bigger risk not being able to look before you get out.<\/p>\n<p>What if you&#8217;re in a wreck???
